Colossal Crisis completed!

Wow… it’s finally done! We presented our project yesterday as well as at the Senior Project Expo and it was very well received.

Here’s the demo reel.

The game was made in XNA 3.0 and can be controlled with either a Xbox 360 controller or the keyboard. The following are the members of Team Rawr and what their roles were in CC’s development.

Developers:
Quin Kennedy: Programming.
Ed Fleischman: Programming.
Fritzie Mercado: Art and animation
James Dalby: Programming, Art and Animation

Game Details:
Developed using XNA 3.0, Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Google Code, Tortoise SVN.
Platform: Windows

Music:
MaestroRage

If you submit any questions, the team all have author accounts on this blog, so they can answer any specific questions you have.

Feels good to complete a game. Haven’t done that in a while.

  • Whoa, I did something.

Haha, so I finished a jumping animation last night.

I was just so proud that I figured I’d post it. I’m also procrastinating in preparing for some BS 3-minute presentation I have to give about maglev trains.

    Jump goooo!

  • Scanning Heaven

So I finally got off my butt and scanned things [I also had a teeny bit of breathing room AND a bit of motivation]. Here they are! In case any of you are wondering why I don’t sketch in a sketchbook, it’s cuz I seem to fail at sketching when in a sketchbook. Soooo…I don’t really bother with sketchbooks anymore and just doodle in my class notebook. I’ve also posted some sprites that I’ve [mostly] finished. Gallery after the jump!

  • More concept art

Just a quick look at what gameplay will probably (not) look like after 6 weeks.

And a little of me trying to emulate Fritzie’s concept art for the hero.

    :-P

  • Enter stage left.

Or stage right. Or whatever. I’m not a big theater-type person.

So you all must be wondering, “Who is this person and why are they posting? GTFO, you! *angry mob*” Weeeell, I’m Fritzie and I’m part of James’s group for our Colossal Crisis project. I’m a senior computer science/engineering major at UCI and dreading the job scramble I’ll have to engage in sometime in the near future. My favorite things to do are sleeping and eating, but when I’m not eating or sleeping, my leisure activities include the following: drawing, running, video games, and cookies. Also webcomics, though they’re not too popular as yet. My arch-nemesis is Perspective. Damn you. Damn you to hell.

Even though I’m a CS major, I’m on the project in a more artistic capacity. So far, I’ve designed our hero, the professor character, and a vague, possibly acceptable design for a monster. Monsters aren’t quite my forte. Architectural design isn’t really either, but I think I can get by. If we’re lucky, we can get an LCAD student to help us out there.

So, without further ado, here are some concept sketches. The Professor and the monster have yet to be scanned, but they’ll be digitized sometime soon. Eventually.

And now the question: Will I be judged on my animu art? :(
